Apocynaceae

Hunteria ballayi Hua

General Information

This is a very small tree, usually less than 3 m tall, perhaps better described as a treelet or shrub. The opposite leaves and white latex indicate that it is in the family Apocynaceae, which contains many poisonous and medicinal plants. The fruit are about 1 cm long, yellow to orange with a short beak and a warty surface. The leaves are rather variable in size and are slightly different colours on each surface when fresh. This species is extremely common in many parts of the area.

Ecology

Terra firma mixed species, Gilbertiodendron dewvrei and seasonally flooded forest.

Distribution

Distribution: Gabon and Cameroon to Republic of Congo and CAR.
